This programme is part of the Helios Fellowships peer mentoring and leadership programme for men. Spread over 5 days we begin our journey at dinner on the first evening before gathering for introductions and programme overview.
Our first full day begins with an exploration of the archetypal map of the masculine psyche, as per Dr Robert Moore Ph.D. This session will introduces us to deep structure of masculinity, it's generative potentials and it’s more commonly known regressive expressions. These facets of the masculine are of course or favourite heroes and villains consistent through history and thus all religions and mythologies.
The King Blessing & Justice vs Tyranny & Abdication
The Warrior Focus & Action vs Sadism & Masochism
The Magician Wisdom & Insight vs Manipulation & Denial
The Lover Deep Appreciation & Connection vs Addiction & Impotence
The Mentor Journey
Groundwork & Foundations
Taking this symbolic map and shaping it to the needs of our individual life situations, we move into a deepening series of experiential learnings and reflections as we explore some fundamental questions about masculine culture, connection and community.
Working in triads and larger groups we’ll learn specific skills and gradually incorporate them into the mix of our enquiry. Deep listening and embodiment, cultivating language and awareness, somatic resonance and mirroring, deep nature connection, identifying resources and cultivating the necessary skills for their acquisition and integration through story telling and simple self generated ritual.
We’ll spend time with poetry, share many stories and a dip into the mythological motifs masculinity has conjured. There’ll be time out in the wild, solo time, time to relax and rest, and time to play.
This course will orient delegates to their personal journeys with masculinity, and provide them a range of insight, resources and skill, and the confidence to take these back to the world at large. Importantly, it will also connect them to a growing network of men traveling in the same direction, if not same way or for the same reasons.
Drawing from 22 years experience as a therapist, coach, facilitator, mentor, initiator and guide, my intention is to create a rich learning environment that empowers and inspires men to build and embrace resilience and creative approaches to living a meaningful life.
Ultimately this programme begins the ground work necessary and prepares us to lay foundations for the archetypes of generative masculinity to live through us, consciously, creatively and compassionately, but also fiercely in pursuit of our one true wild, precious and very short lives.
The Mentor Journey is offered as a stand alone course. Prior attendance is required for anyone wishing to attend Awaken the Inner King or The Annual Gathering. It is also highly recommended for anyone wishing to embark on Fire in the Kings Cup, the 12 day Deep Nature Immersion Vision Quest for Men.
The Helios Fellowship is developing a long term relationship with Newbold House, a Victorian Manor House with grounds and gardens close to the Findhorn River, Bay and Eco Village. The Cairngorm Mountains are a stones throw to the South.
Accommodation is in large comfortable shared rooms (2 or 3 people per room - no bunks) with various communal spaces and bathrooms spread about the property.
It is highly recommended you take advantage of the residential package. It is possible to find alternative accommodation however, as our days run from 8.00am until 9.30pm each evening, it would be detrimental to the group and disruptive to learning to have delegates leaving site during these times. Meals are an integral part of the programme and included in the cost. If you wish to stay off campus, please email me and let me know.
